December 2002
10 December - Cher is unhappy with the King of Pop.
Mark Steines of ET interviewed Cher backstage last night after the Billboard Awards. Part of the interview was shown today on ET. Cher shared a few thoughts about the Michael Jackson 'baby-dangling incident': "You know what, I don't have a nice thing to say about him. He and I were friends when he was little. I watched him grow up and all that, but, you know, you dangle a baby over a balcony, that's it for me... If it was up to me, he wouldn't have those babies now. It was the most unbelievable thing I've ever seen a parent do."

9 December - Cher to receive Billboard Award!
Cher received a "Lifetime Achievement Award" at this year's Billboard Awards broadcasted live from the MGM Grand Arena, Las Vegas, December 9th on FOX TV. The award celebrates her musical achievements including her four consecutive decades of #1 hits.

Steven Tyler give a very nice introduction for Cher, a "Energy Force of Nature", mentioning her 4 decades of work including #1 singles, Golden Globe Award, Grammy and Oscar. Then they showed a short video clip of Cher's major accomplishments, including her number one hits and movies. After more introduction by Steven, including calling Cher the "Gold Standard in Pop Music", Cher took the stage wearing a 2-piece Mackie maroon creation and sporting long straight black hair with red streaks.

Cher gave a short acceptance speech as follows: "Thank you. Thank you. Thanks. I've been doing this for, what, 5 decades now and I wasn't actually sure which Cher to be tonight. So I just thought I would go back to vintage Bob Mackie, back in the day. Oh, I've been really lucky I've been able to do so many things, make records, do concerts, do TV, make movies. All the things I wanted to do when I was little and wasn't sure I would be able to do. But truthfully, it is the only thing I am good at. I've had unbelievable support in my life. And I've worked really hard and have had great people to work with.

And, oh, you know what. I have also had critics for the last 40 years, saying that I was on my way out every year. Right! So F them. I still have a job and they don't. So, I have 2 things to say. I was watching Martin Lawrence the other day and he said something about life. And he said, 'You gotta ride it until the wheels fall off'. And I think that is about the most important thing I have heard lately.

And my last thing to say is that I have to thank Sonny Bono. Because without Sonny, there would have been no Sonny & Cher. There would be no Cher. So, thank you very much."

As Cher was leaving the stage, they mentioned that Cher had also won the "Dance Club Play Artist of the Year" award!! Congratulations Cher!

Thank you Cher for sharing yourself with us for 5 decades. We are looking forward to the next decade to see what surprises you have for us, your fans.
November 2002

May 2002
23 May - Cher Rocks Divas 2002!

Cher sang her all time favorite song "Believe" while descending the long steps from within the crowd, shaking the many extended hands of fans who were just seeking a brief touch from this Diva! Dressed in an outstanding outfit that looks a little like "Versace" but maybe it is "Mackie", Cher makes her way to center stage looking like she is enjoying every minute of being the main Diva of the night.

Next Cher appears in yet another fresh new look of leather in Cher's current favorite color of teal. Is that a "Chastity Belt" that Cher is sporting? Cher sings a lively version of her hit "Song For The Lonely" from her new album "Living Proof". The crowd goes wild.
Immediately we hear the familiar cords of "If I Could Turn Back Time". Cher switches gears and relaxes into her comfort zone, singing with feeling and modifying here and there the words of our favorite tune. Midway, Cher calls out for Cyndi, and is joined by her concert companion Cyndi Lauper. The two sing a duet so forceful that it brings a smile to your face and a tear to your eye.
But wait, there is more. During the finale, the Divas gave a tribute to Elvis. Only the "Queen of Divas", could play "The King" better than the King himself! Only Cher would be brave and confident enough to dress 'in drag' at a Divas Live affair! "Heartbreak Hotel" was Cher's song of choice. Back in 1995, Cher also did her Elvis look-alike skit. We wonder if she used the same wig?

3 May - Cher on American Bandstand 50th Anniversary Special.

Cher sang "A Different Kind Of Love Song" on the American Bandstand 50th Anniversary special. Cher kicked off the show by singing for the first time another one of the songs from her new "Living Proof" album. Cher's performance was awesome and full of energy. She looked like she was really enjoying herself during the performance. The audience was just going wild, especially during the special sound effect near the end of the song.

For those who missed it, we've included a whole series of still pics from Cher's performance. We would like to thank Dick Clark, the American Bandstand crew and ABC for sponsoring this special show. And also, thank you Cher for another great entertaining performance.

April 2002
30 April - Cher on Jay Leno.

Cher sang "Song For The Lonely" on Jay Leno's 10th Anniversary Special. Cher did a fantastic job singing 'live' (no lip-sync) emphasizing different words than the recording on the CD. This gave her performance a special added touch that excited the fans and brought the crowd to a standing ovation. Leno told Cher she did a great job and Cher kissed him on the cheek which brought great delight to Leno as he gave a 'thumbs up' to the audience.

During the beginning of the song, Cher gave a sign with her fingers crossed. (see pic.) This is not the typical 'I Love You' sign that Cher usually gives at the end of her performances. A Cher fan, from the Yahoo Cher Mail Group, that attended the taping explained that in her first performance, her top came loose and she had to hold it up during her performance. She asked to retape and this time gave a 'I hope this works' sign with crossed fingers. If you would like to get this type of 'inside' Cher news, we encourage you to join the Yahoo Cher Mail Group and join in the fun. It is the biggest Cher Mail Group on the net.

We have created an animated pictorial of Cher's performance. Click here to see it.
