CD insert words by John Howard:

The years 1973 and 1974 were superbly successful for Cher. In September '73, she released her third MCA album, "Half Breed". The title track immediately shot to the top of the American charts, establishing Cher once and for all as a major solo artist.

The "Half Breed" album, again produced by Snuff Garrett, included an interesting selection of songs such as Paul and Linda McCartney's "My Love" which had topped the charts earlier that year by Paul's Wings. Another McCartney song also graced "Half Breed", one he'd written for the Beatles as they ended their time together, "The Long And Winding Road", another U.S. No. 1 song.

Cher's choice of material displayed its usual diversity, with songs by Barry and Robin Gibb and Seals and Croft.

A few months later, with the release of "Dark Lady", Cher achieved another American chart-topper and hit the British Top 40. The album of the same name featured material by Bob Stone - he wrote "Gypsys Tramps and Thieves", a hit for Cher in 1971 - John Durrill, (as well as contributing to the "Half Breed" album, he wrote "Dark Lady" and another Cher classic, "I Saw A Man And He Danced With His Wife"), and even Irving Berlin - hear Cher's beautiful rendition of the tearjerker, "What'll I Do", featured in the hit movie, "The Great Gatsby". The opening track "Train Of Thought" gave Cher another American smash.

These two classic albums, now available on CD for the first time, are released together to make a superb 21-track collection, highlighting the interpretive talents of one of Rock's greatest stars.
